Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine, a Philadelphia native is a native of Philadelphia, and was raised in the city. Pam Her mother, who is a former back-up singer at Philadelphia International Records. When she was five years old, her father was offered in the role of curator for The city's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family moved into the historical landmark. In 2005 she graduated from Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts with an alumnus in vocal music. Sullivan began singing as a contralto in the youth choir and shortly after, in the adult choir. Sullivan was not exposed to secular music. She recalls when she was in her 11th year when someone asked her to sing solos at the church. The singer wasn't enough yet to be ready. "I was lucky enough to be chosen for an McDonald's contest, where youngsters from cities across the country an opportunity to sing 'Accept the things God allows'. The audience responded very well." When she was 13 years old, she performed along to Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday celebration. Sullivan was the first to sign her contract with Jive Records when she was 15. It was her first time signing with Jive Records in the year 15. She recorded an entire album but this album did not see release. Sullivan was later dropped at the hands of the company. They had a strong working relationship to Missy Elliott. Elliott produced several of her songs such as "Backstabbers", which was written by Timbaland.
